5 kid-approved stops in Black Mountain, NC

The town of Black Mountain, NC is one of the cutest mountain towns North Carolina has to offer. Quaint, walkable, plenty to offer food & activity wise, and an easy drive to Asheville. It’s such a great stop or place to stay.

We recently stayed in Black Mountain when we were visiting the NC Arboretum in Asheville over New Years, and we absolutely loved our time in this adorable town.

Our VRBO rental was walkable both into Black Mountain and to Montreat – truly the best of both worlds! The kids loved playing in the creek, at the playground, and around the lake at Montreat, and we loved walking into town for coffee, brunch & dinner.

Some of our favorite kid-approved Black Mountain stops are below! Have you been? Do you have a favorite local spot?!

Louise’s Kitchen

I’m a bit biased because of the name (there are a whole bunch of Louises in our family – myself included), but I seriously cannot recommend this stop enough.

Their pimento cheese is “famous” and y’all that’s not something to sleep on. The grilled pimento cheese sandwich + tomato soup was the best I’ve ever had. Not to mention the kids menu offered something for everyone (says the girl with 4 kids who never want the same type of food) at a great price!

And just say yes to the giant cinnamon roll as a dessert for the table. You won’t regret it.

Dripolator Coffeehouse

I love a good local coffee shop & the Dripolator did not disappoint. Great location for walking around town, delicious coffee & hot chocolate, super cute spot, friendly baristas. 10/10.

Sassafrass on Sutton

The absolute cutest bookstore around. Our kids loved the upstairs kids section, which has a huge selection! Fun gifts, great themed sections, fantastic book selection + a coffee bar in the back!

My Father’s Pizza

This has been a Black Mountain staple for me since my high school years at Montreat, and it truly never disappoints. Honestly a trip to Black Mountain isn’t complete without some My Father’s – and I know there are many of you out there who agree!

Open Oven Bakery

The most delicious breakfast & brunch spot. Their menu is incredible, and honestly I could go back and get something different every time, and I’m sure I’d still be as obsessed.

Bonus: it’s a super short walk to the Dripolator if you need a coffee while you wait for a table.
